Mondragon Cooperative Model for CD-MAC Villages

To provide sustainability for each village, more issues than simply housing must be addressed in a country with limited economic opportunity

such a Haiti. CD-MAC has created partnerships with businesses that are willing to relocate assets to the Pignon area and let the people of the

village assume employee ownership through a cooperative based on the Mondragon model. Providing adequate housing is only the first step

in an overall plan to break the cycle of poverty that currently exists in Haiti,

We plan on instituting the cooperative model for the farming and agriculture industry in Central and North Haiti. Through a partnership with

Pollos Del Norte Corporation of the Dominican Republic we plan on cooperative ownership of a poultry farming operation which will sustain the

village as well as provide capital from poultry and egg sales throughout the country.

Agriculture and poultry farms will be a cornerstone of the economy of each new village to provide sustenance, capital and self sustainability.

Poultry can also be beneficial in diversified farming operations by helping to control pests, providing an alternative, year-round source of income,

and producing high-nitrogen organic manure for fertilizer.

Cooperative ownership of fish farms will additionally address the sustainability of the communities as well as provide capital for expansion of

the co-op. Fish Farming is also an effective means of utilizing wet lands. Effective use of marginal land e.g. land that is too poor, or too costly to

drain for agriculture can be profitably devoted to fish farming.

By utilizing the Mondragon cooperative model to provide cooperative ownership of food production, business, education, health care and a sound

banking and financial system. Economic viability of the community and eventually the nation will be be addressed for the continued survival and

success of each individual  community and the country at large. Below is a brief historic outline of the Mondragon Cooperative model of employee

ownership of business which will be the corner stone of the local economy of each planned community.
